Wanda Hutton Obituary

Wanda Hutton (Johnson), age 96, of Casey, passed away at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  Wanda was born March 16, 1927, in Rome, Georgia, to Lewis and Alma Swindell Williams.

Wanda graduated from high school in 1944.  She met the love of her life, a handsome soldier, Don Hutton, who was a student pilot in the Army Air Force stationed in Rome, Georgia.  She was his “Georgia peach” and they married in February, 1946, after he served as a B24 pilot in WWll.  Don died in an automobile accident in November, 1985.  Then in March of 1990, she married Leonard H. Johnson, who survives.

Other survivors include her two daughters: Karla (Tom) Cowan of Sammamish, WA and Jana (David) Hensiek of Casey; her seven grandchildren, Sondra (Tim) Stever, Jason (Kelly) Cowan, Michael (Jamie) Cowan, Josh Cowan, Donovan (Kiley) Hensiek, Bridget Campbell, and Timothy (Shawnda) Hensiek; nineteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson, brothers-in-law Ted (Sharon) Hutton and Jim Lee; step children Chris (Donnie) McDougal, Joanne (Leroy) Johns, John Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Don, her parents, her two brothers Bertron (Ruth) Williams and Kenneth (Mildred) Williams, two sisters Mildred (Elwin) Toles and Miskel (Norman) Sisson, brother-in-law Jim (Betty) Hutton, sisters-in-laws Betty Lee and Celia Hutton, as well as Don’s parents, Roy and Grace Hutton, and two step children, Sharon Whitehair and Leonard H. Johnson, Jr.

When Karla and Jana were both in school, Wanda worked as secretary at Monroe School for many years.  She later worked at The Bank of Casey and then receptionist at Forest Oil Corporation.  She was a 75 plus year member of the Casey First Baptist Church where she served many years as Sunday School teacher and as pianist/organist for 54 years.  She would say that the best decision of her life was accepting Christ as her Savior as a young teenager and living her life serving Him. She loved to tell others about Jesus and we rejoice knowing that she has now met Him face to face.

Wanda enjoyed boating and water skiing, even water skiing at 70 years old!  Wanda and Don did lots of traveling visiting 38 different countries.  Wanda took flying lessons and succeeded at flying solo so that she would know how to land the plane if she ever needed to.  She was a wonderful cook and loved trying new recipes.  When it became hard for her to be chief cook, she still made sure she instructed Jana and Karla on exactly what to do! She was known for her “salt” not only on her French fries, but she was “salt and light” to everyone she met.  She loved getting “dressed up” all the time and never wanted to go without her lipstick!  Even into her 90’s she still enjoyed her computer and Skyping with Karla and the grandkids and would even Skype her daughter, Jana, living next door!  She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida, and any time spent with her daughters, grandkids, great grandkids and even the newest great great grandchild was what made her the happiest!
