Virginia June McCullough, age 88, of Rantoul, IL formerly of Casey, IL passed away wrapped in the loving and healing grace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning October 15, 2023 at Goldwater Care in Gibson City, IL. She was born January 14, 1935 in rural Clark County (Casey), IL the daughter of Noble Neal Grissom and Leona Mae Schrider Grissom. On December 31, 1952 she married Max LeRoy McCullough Sr. in Toledo, IL. He passed away on February 8, 1966.
June is survived by her three loving children; Max LeRoy McCullough Jr. (Ruth) of Greenup, IL; Terri Lyn Durham of Rantoul, IL and Kelly Jo McCullough of Paxton, IL. Eight grandchildren; Kyle McCullough (Hillary), Dustin McCullough (Heather), Erica Brenner (Max deceased), Ryne Durham, Hayley Robinson (Michael), Jaysen Durham (Stephanie), Shawne McCullough (Jen), and Jenna Foix (Andrew). Seventeen great-grandchildren; Dallas McCullough, Ashlyn McCullough, McKenzie McCullough, Bailey Antrim, Brody McCullough, Piper McCullough, Kase McCullough, Preslie Beeson (step), Gunner Beeson (step), Damion Brenner, Ricky Durham, Samantha Durham, Austin McCullough, Madison McCullough, Kelsey Foix, Jacob Foix, and Aiden Foix. June also has three surviving siblings; Richard Grissom (JoAnn) of Charleston, IL; Shirley Fields of Minooka, IL and Elizabeth Novak (Ken) of Festus, MO. Also, many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, her Church family and many friends.
June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings; Etta Mae Grissom, Maurice Ray Grissom, Tom Grissom, Dorothy Jeanne Ring, Juanita McBride, Kay Hunsaker and Evelyn Roan; daughter-in-law Patty McCullough; son-in-law Jim Durham; grandson Christopher McCullough; and two great-grandchildren Taylor Foix and Korie Foix.
June attended Casey High school and continued her education taking night business courses for 2 years. June worked for Casey High school from 1966-1971, Huisinga Grain Elevator from1971-1981, BurCro Feed Store from 1981-1987, Walmart from 1987-1990 and was a bookkeeper for Downtown Garage until 1992 when she retired.
June had a secure faith in her salvation and was a faithful member of Casey First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Mattoon Eagles Club, DAV (Disabled American Veterans Association), Gold Star Wives of America and Navy Wives Club, where she served as the secretary for several years. June enjoyed walking and line dancing in her retirement years and traveled with friends and family to dancing venues in Illinois and Tennessee. Her favorite place to dance was the former KK Dance Ranch in Greenup, Illinois.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marsh and Rev. Brooke Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery, rural Greenup, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
