Virginia Joan Hinkle Maxwell

Virginia Joan Maxwell, age 70, of Rochelle, IL, formerly of Martinsville, IL passed away at 11:38 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL.  Virginia was born November 22, 1952 in rural Martinsville, IL, the daughter of Carroll Hinkle and Eva K. Brandenburg Hinkle.  She married Larry Ray Maxwell on September 22, 1973 at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Kansas, IL.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Larry Maxwell of Rochelle, IL; children, Kimberly Miller (Jonathan) of Rochelle, IL, Samantha Diericks (Jason) of Malta, IL and Kyle Maxwell (Nikki) of Davis Junction, IL; grandchildren, Alexander Miller, Hailey Miller, Garrett Miller, Kendall Maxwell, Easton Maxwell, Maci Maxwell and Rhys Diericks; brother, Darrell Hinkle (Linda) of Effingham, IL and sisters, Margaret Seaton (Jerry) of Vandalia, IL and Rachel Holt (Richard) of Robinson, IL; many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Virginia was a 1970 graduate of Martinsville High School and earned her Bachelors of Education degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1973.  She was a retired special education teacher in Malta, IL and the Dekalb School District for 35 years.  Virginia enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Greenwell Funeral Home with William Prosise officiating.  Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, IL.  Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
