Vaneta Fay (Lacy) Hartman, age 97, passed away at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at her home. She was born November 26, 1923 in University City, MO the daughter of Walter Scott Lacy and Mary Blanche Pruitt Lacy. On June 7, 1946 she married Lacey Verlin Hartman in University City, MO; he passed away on June 27, 1985.
Survivors include her children, Janine Hartman Parker (Bill) of Cincinnati, OH; Walter Scott Hartman (Cyndi) of Brownstown, IL and Lacey Grant Hartman (Chris) of Casey, IL; sister, Jean Scherbel of Affton, MO; grandchildren, Anthony Hartman (Lori) of Sherman, TX and Alecia Hartman Atchison (George II) of Sherman, TX; great grandsons, Miles Hartman, Owen Hartman, George Atchison III and Henry Atchison; step grandson, John Stivers, of Martinsville, IL and step great grandchildren, Miya, Everleigh and Jameston. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, Lacey V. Hartman; brother, Virgil Lacy and sister Thelma Neander.
Vaneta was a graduate of University City High school. She was a member of Casey First Baptist Church. Vaneta was an excellent cook and baker; she created many of her own recipes. At one time she entered a Pillsbury Bakeoff and won a stove with her winning entry. She enjoyed canning from the garden she and her husband raised. Vaneta was a self-taught pianist and was meticulous with numbers; she kept ledgers of income and expenses balanced perfectly. Vaneta was a very private person and was blessed to live independently in her home for her lifetime.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Pastor Gene Ellis officiating.
