Theron Connel "Con" Tutewiler

Theron Connel “Con” Tutewiler, age 88, of Charleston, IL passed away at home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.  Connel was born February 1, 1935 in Cumberland County, IL, the son of Joseph Connel Tutewiler and Pearl Edna Tharp Tutewiler.  On February 16,1956 he married Crystal Maureen “Ricky” Ring at Casey Union Baptist Church, Cumberland County, IL; she passed away on July 14, 1975.  On June 6, 1987 he married Ruth Margaret Waggle Willison in Charleston, IL; she passed away on June 4, 2015. 

Survivors include his children, Lori Browning (Jeff) of Charleston, IL and Curtis Tutewiler (Ginger) of Normal, IL; grandsons, Michael Browning (Braddi), Brandon Browning (Elizabeth), Corey Tutewiler (Libby), Ryne Tutewiler and Payton Tutewiler; great grandchildren, Jensen and Gannon Browning, Liv Cross, Theron and Ani Tutewiler;  his Church family and friends.  He also leaves his beloved sheltie dog, Buddy.  Con was preceded in death by his parents, wives, son, Randall Kim Tutewiler and sister, Elsie Fern Hunt (Charles Duane Hunt).

Con lived his younger years on farms near Greenup and Casey, IL, where they worked in the fields and milked cows.  He graduated from Casey High School in 1954.  Con was retired from Charleston School District as a janitor and had previously worked at USI Chemical Plant in Tuscola, IL as a lab technician.  He was a faithful member of East Harrison Street Church of God where he served on the Church council and was a trustee.

Like Will Rogers, Con never met a person he didn’t like.  He always had a kind word for friends and strangers.  He loved his family greatly.  He cherished being outdoors, whether it be chopping or splitting wood, working in the garden (he was known as the “Tomato Man”), fishing with whoever would go, or simply sitting and enjoying God’s creation.

Con was a man of faith and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He would often quote or sing Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Walters officiating.  Burial will follow in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL.  Visitation will be held from 12 – 2 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
