Thelma Gard Obituary

Thelma Louise Hogue Gard, age 97, of Marshall, IL passed away at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born February 23, 1924 in Casey, IL, the daughter of Clifford Hogue and Cora Kline Hogue. On February 14, 1998 she married Donald Gard; he passed away on February 26, 2006.

Survivors include her daughter in law, Linda Kay Claypool of Marshall, IL; step daughter, Judy Gates of Kingman, IN; grandchildren, Lisa Jacober (Rich) of Olathe, KS, Les Claypool (Angie) of Glen Carbon, IL, and Kevin Boyer (Tara) of Casey, IL; great grandchildren, Sydney and Luke Jacober, Cooper Claypool, and Morgan Boyer; and nephews, Mike Ashmore and Steve Ashmore both of TX. She was preceded by her parents and husband, Donald Gard. In 1942, she married Leslie E. Claypool, who along with their sons, Rhondal Claypool and Leslie D. Claypool preceded her in death. She later married Wayne Cline who also preceded her along with two sisters, Doris Beckwith and Deloris Ashmore.

Thelma was a 1942 graduate of Casey High School. She attended the Westside Church of Christ in Casey, IL. and was a member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville, IL. Thelma worked in the Martinsville Pharmacy as a cashier during the 1960s and 1970s. Thelma was a part of the Gold Star Mothers and kept the memory of her son alive by working to help veterans, active military families, and her community. She was also a proud member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Martinsville, IL.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Mr. Caleb Towles officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery in Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. (Per CDC guidelines, face masks are required regardless of vaccination status. Please also maintain social distancing.)

Memorial donations may be made to the Westside Church of Christ, 102 N. Coles St., Casey, IL 62420.
