Shelby Jean Hawker, age 82, of Hazel Dell, IL for over 60 years passed away at 1:27 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Casey Health Care Center in Casey, IL. She was born February 2, 1939 in Noble, IL the daughter of Charles B. Warren Sr. and Clella Taylor Warren. On February 23, 1957 she married Walter Herbert “Herb” Hawker in Shawneetown, IL; he passed away on May 12, 2011.
Survivors include her sons, Bill “Wick” Hawker of Charleston, IL, Michael Hawker (Mary) of Effingham, IL, and Chris Hawker (Angela) of Evansville, IN; daughters, Sheryl Fisher (Jim) of Casey, IL and Linda Simpson (Scott) of Yale, IL; sister, Barbara (Chuck) Hutchens of Martinsville, IL; sister in laws, Janice Warren of Monee, IL, Dottie Hawker of Hazel Dell, IL, Millie Biggs of Casey, IL, and Carolyn Fasig of Casey, IL; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Berl Warren Jr. and Paul Richard Hawker.
Shelby was a graduate of Casey High School in Casey, IL. She received an LPN degree from Lake Land College and served as an LPN in nursing homes including Cumberland Rehab Center, Heartland Nursing Center, and Casey Health Care Center. She was a member of the Hazel Dell Church of Christ in Hazel Dell, IL. Shelby had many talents and enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and traveling. She was a great cook and enjoyed taking care of her family. She had a kind, caring, giving, and loving heart and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Emrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazel Dell North Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL. Visitation will be held from 10 am – 11 am prior to the service on Wednesday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Per CDC Guidelines indoor masks and face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status in the facility. Attendees should also practice social distancing.
