Sandra Stickler Obituary

Sandra L. Trine Stickler, age 71, of Casey, IL passed away on July 14, 2022 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center of Mattoon, IL following a short illness. She was born April 17, 1951 to James W. and R. Joan Cary Trine in the old Paris Hospital and delivered by Dr. Paul Fleener. On May 6, 1972 she married Allen J. Stickler from Paris, IL in the Casey Church of the Nazarene by Rev. Ruth Yates.

She is survived by her husband Allen of Casey, IL; son, David H. Stickler of Casey, IL; daughter, Debra Sue Williams of Charleston, IL; grandson, Tyler A. Williams; great grandchildren, De’Wayne and Araya; brother, Dale E. Trine of Paris, IL; sister, Patricia A. Kyle and husband Jim of Martinsville, IL; and aunts, Dorothy Colter, Nancy Trine, Betty Joan Trine, Judy Kelly, Fay Terrell, June Cary, and Judy Skeeter. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, all uncles, some aunts, and a couple cousins.

Sandy was a 1969 graduate of Paris High School and a member of the honor society. She worked her adult life for County Companies Insurance for forty-two years. Mrs. Stickler began her career as a secretary then became one of the first claims representatives. Over her career, she worked in Paris, Tuscola, Marshall, Martinsville, Danville, and retired from Decatur and Charleston.

She was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Paris, Casey, and Ridge Farm, and the New Hope Community Church. She taught Sunday School Class for several years starting as a teenager. She served as the local Casey Church Missionary President. She also served as the Mattoon Zone Missionary Chairman and was serving as the Illinois District Missionary President. She took two work and witness trips to Mexico with the Illinois District and also to an Indian Nazarene School in New Mexico with the local Casey Nazarene Church. One of her fond memories was sitting on the platform in Arcola during a zone missionary meeting where there were several Spanish speaking people present and watching the faces of the crowd as the Spanish interpreter translated the meeting. She said it was as if she were in a foreign land as a missionary. Another was how very special a group of ladies made her feel during tea at an all-African American Nazarene Church in the St. Louis area.

Sandy liked traveling. She took several day trips with her siblings, children, and grandson. When she was a girl at home, she was always sending off for traveling information. One time she and her brother traveled to see friends in Missouri, the friends were Amish, she noticed before leaving for the evening everyone grabbed flashlights, after dark she found out why. Her big trip came on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary when they took a trip out west. Upon returning home she mentioned how close and brilliant the stars appeared in the mountains.

She will be remembered as one who loved God and His church, people, and enjoyed serving and helping people including special church dinners. When she was very young her great grandfather gave her the nickname “Spunk” and she lived up to that name the rest of her life.
