Ruby Irene Goss Chapman

Ruby Irene Goss Chapman peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, October 27, 2021; she was blessed with 97 years. She was born September 19, 1924 on the county line road north of Annapolis, IL, the daughter of Hobart Goss and Ina Ruth Mann Goss.  On December 8, 1945 she married the love of her life Howard E. Chapman in Independence, Kansas.  They enjoyed 53 years together before he passed away on November 12, 1998.

Survivors include son, Gary Chapman (Linda) of Casey, IL; daughter, Janet Isbell of Casey, IL; grandsons, Trevor Isbell, Jason Isbell (Sarah) and Matthew Chapman; great granddaughters,  Kaylee Grace Isbell and Jane Marie Isbell; sister, Reba Hamilton of Robinson, IL; brother in law, Donald Allison of Robinson, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Shirley Allison; half-sisters, Cecil Ruth Morris (Vale) and Louise Jessup (Lyle) and brother in law, Gene Hamilton.

As much as Ruby loved her grandsons, she was thrilled to finally welcome little girls into the  family.  Just the mention of their names made Ruby’s face light up.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. 

Ruby was a 1942 graduate of Robinson Township High School.  She was a lifetime member of the East Christian Church located in Porterville, where she taught Sunday school and was a song leader.  Several generations of her family attended there before her; she was broken hearted when the Church closed a few years ago. 

Mrs. Chapman was the bookkeeper for Chapman Brothers Equipment in Casey, IL and Chapman Brothers Service in West Union, IL for over 35 years.  Once Howard retired Ruby continued bookkeeping for her son Gary’s Cub Cadet Dealership in Casey, IL; finally retiring at the age of 90. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Markwell Funeral Home with David Bourne officiating.  Burial will follow in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL.  Visitation will be held from 10 am – 12 pm prior to the service on Monday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.  Per CDC Guidelines indoor masks and face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status in the facility.  Attendees should also practice social distancing.
