Ronnie Jay Carlson, age 77 of Casey, IL, passed away at 9:04 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL. He was born May 26, 1942 in Chicago, IL, the son of Henry Carlson and Mildred Mayall Carlson. On February 1, 1964 he married Kathleen Ruth Decker in Hayward, CA.
Ron is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Kathleen Carlson of Casey, IL; four daughters, Betsy Collins (Dean) of Casey, IL, Kema Carlson of Kennesaw, GA, Joella Tabaka (Russ Sr.) of Volo, IL and Ruth Ann Wiltberger of Lehigh Acres, FL; brother, Wayne Carlson of Zion, IL; sisters, Sharon Olszewski (Mark) of Kenosha, WI and Karen Farley (Scott) of Trevor, WI; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron was an Army Veteran and proudly displayed the American flag in his yard. He retired as an engineer from Basic Electronics, a printed circuit board company. Ron was an active member of Casey First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and the senior coordinator. He was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed the Big Things in A Small Town. He also enjoyed restoring antique radios and growing pumpkins. He truly loved his grandkids and being their “Papa”.
Memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Casey First Baptist Church, Casey, IL.
