Robert Earl Hicks

Robert Earl Hicks, age 92, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Casey, IL. He was born on June 27, 1930 in Fillmore, IN, the son of Kenneth Otto Hicks and Mabel Esther (Harris) Hicks. On July 29, 1950 he married Joy Eileen Abney in Indianapolis, IN; together they shared seventy-two years of marriage before Joy’s passing on December 28, 2022.

Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Howe (Steve) of Yale, IL and Linda Verde (Marc) of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughters, Brandy Nash (Chris) of Greenup, IL, Savanna Verde and Sierra Verde of Simpsonville, SC; and great grandsons, Cooper Nash and Reid Nash of Greenup, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and grandson, Dustin Howe.

Robert was a 1948 graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN. He proudly served our country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War earning the Korean Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and United Nations Service Ribbon. Bob worked as the Material Control Manager for ten years at TRW. He then bought half interest in Quickmix and operated there for seven years. He later purchased Perry’s Hardware Store in Casey, IL and owned and operated the store until retiring in 1987. Retirement was an adventure for Bob and Joy as they enjoyed their time in Sun City West, AZ. In 2017, the couple moved back to Casey to be near their beloved family. Bob and Joy were faithful members of the Casey United Methodist Church.

Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Vernon Addition Mausoleum with Rev. Dr. Joe Richard officiating. Military rites will be provided at the service by the Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion.
