Richard Edward “Dick” Erickson, age 87, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 6:57 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Marshall Nursing and Rehab in Marshall, IL. He was born April 22, 1933 in Galesburg, IL the son of Ernest Erickson and Elizabeth Olson Erickson. On May 25, 1957 he married Shirley Ann Hayden in Martinsville, IL; she passed away on March 18, 2008.
He is survived by son, Brian Erickson and his wife Wendy of Elizabethtown, Ky; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley Erickson; sister, Lois Erickson and brothers, Leonard, Jack and James Erickson.
Dick was a US Korean War veteran serving his country in the US Navy from 1952 – 1956 as a 3rd Class Gunner mate. He was over a 60 year member of the Martinsville American Legion and over a 40 year member of Martinsville Masonic Lodge. Dick worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years and retired from Casey Implement Company in Casey, IL. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and was well known around Martinsville as being fun, friendly and a little ornery and mischievous.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Brother Art Orndorff officiating. Graveside military rites will be provided by the Martinsville American Legion and Casey VFW.
