Richard A. Brooks, age 72, of Burnsville, NC went to his eternal home with Jesus on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL
Richard was born on October 12, 1949 to Richard and Jane Brooks in Baltimore, MD. After graduating high school and college he returned to his family business in MD before engaging in a career in the thoroughbred horse business.
Richard met Brenda in Lexington, KY and they were married on September 19, 1987. He and Brenda loved living in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a slower pace of life.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Brenda (Bertram), sons, Daniel (Stephanie) of Yokosuka, Japan, Jeremy of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Jeff Kuhn (Kiersten) of O’Fallon, MO and daughter, Christa Guilbeault (Dave) of Glen Carbon, IL. Grandchildren: Patrick & Fiona Brooks, Austin, Jacob & Rylan Kuhn, Mariah, Taylor & Brandon Guilbeault (Michal). Siblings: Priscilla Brooks Smith (Robert), Towson, MD and Karen Brooks Coleman (Mark), Townson, MD, brother-in-law Bruce James, Taneytown, MD. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many loving cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jane (Hungerford) Brooks, siblings Peter Brooks and Pamela Brooks James, In- laws Ben and Betty (Dulgar) Bertram and brother-in-law, David Bertram.
Richard graduated from Townson High School in 1968. In 1972 he graduated from Northwood University in French Lick, IN with a BS in Automotive Marketing. After college, he returned to MD to work for his family’s business, Brooks-Price Buick in Towson, MD before engaging in the Thoroughbred Horse Business – breeding, racing and selling thoroughbred horses.
Richard also worked in sales with golf club companies, various golf entities and manufactured his own line of Double Eagle golf shirts. Richard was an avid golfer playing on the golf team at Northwood and enjoyed traveling for golf outings including traveling to Ireland and England with other golf buddies.
Richard and Brenda are members of Grace Community Church in Marion, NC where he and Brenda were Life Group Leaders. He was on the church Prayer Team and always an encourager to others. He loved to fish, watch college sports and a dedicated Christian.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be at the Casey Country Club, Sunday, December 12 from 1 – 3 p.m. Friends and family are invited and welcome to stop by to visit, give hugs and share stories.
