Rex Allen Davis

On Sunday July 10, 2022, Rex Allen Davis, age 79, of Fairmount, IL formerly of Westfield, IL passed peacefully away at his home. Mr. Davis was born on February 5, 1943 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Edward Oscar "Pete" Davis and Ruth Moriah (Lacey) Davis. He was raised in Westfield with his nine siblings.

After graduating from Westfield High School, he worked briefly at Stateville Prison in Joliet, Illinois. He then went on to work in Tilton, Illinois at General Motors as a millwright for 32 years at which time he retired on July 1, 1992.

Rex asked Janice Elaine Gilbert to their junior high fun night, and she continued to be his sweetheart until the day he passed. They married in a small church in Westfield on Valentine’s Day in 1965. They moved a few times before settling in Fairmount, Illinois where they have lived the last 45 years. Rex enjoyed many things including Gunsmoke, Corvettes, Harley Davidson motorcycles, hunting, watching his grandchildren play sports, and traveling with his wife.

Rex is survived by his wife Elaine, his sons and daughters in law Craig and Reyna (Almanza) Davis of New Richmond, Indiana, David and Amber (Lafferty) Davis of Pocatello, Idaho, and his daughter and son in law Jennifer (Davis) and Bob Woodard of Tuscola, Illinois, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and his two sisters Kay (Larry) Smith of Casey, Illinois and Roberta Boyer of Casey, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Libby Davis Lycan and siblings Edward Davis, Denzel Richardson, Mary Ratts, Clayton Davis, Dale Davis, Charles Davis, Arthur Davis, Dayne Davis and Perry Davis.  Rex is loved dearly by his friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Markwell Funeral Home with Steve Biggs officiating.  Burial will follow in Bean Cemetery, Cleone, IL.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
