Preston Charles Rukes

Preston Charles Rukes, age 40, of Martinsville, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 6, 1981 in Terre Haute, IN the son of Melinda Peters Owen.

Survivors include his mother, Melinda Owen (Gregg) of Martinsville, IL; brother, Bobby Short (Michelle) of Aiken, SC; nephew, Tanner Short of Aiken, SC; grandmother, Marilyn Higgins of Terre Haute, IN; great grandmother, Dolly James of Terre Haute, IN; uncle, Daniel Higgins (Heather) of Terre Haute, IN; aunt, Jamie Rukes of FL; great aunt, Joann Clark of Romeoville, IL; and several cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Peters and great grandfather, Curley Matherly.

Preston was a 2000 graduate of Martinsville High School in Martinsville, IL. He was a member of the Martinsville City Council. Preston loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a part time farmer. On game day, you would always find Preston cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.

Preston’s wishes were for cremation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Brother Randy officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
