Oliver "Ollie" Von Behren Obituary

Oliver Louis “Ollie” Von Behren of Martinsville, IL passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  He was born in Mattoon, IL the son of Wesley Louis Von Behren and Mona Bernice Starwalt Von Behren.  He married Linda Marie Buckner in Martinsville, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Buckner Von Behren of Martinsville, IL; son, Barret Louis Von Behren (Nicole) of Robinson, IL; grandson, Rhett Louis Von Behren; aunt, Mary Grooms of Sullivan, IL; uncle, Everett Speck of Jackson, MI; brother in law, Eddie Buckner (Pat) of Martinsville, IL; nephews and nieces, Becky McDearmon (Shane) and their children, Alex and Addison of Martinsville, IL; Tim Buckner (Nicole) and their children, Clayton and Miriam of Martinsville, IL and Alan Buckner of Martinsville, IL; close family friends which he considered his family, Jon, Katrina, Parker, Paige and Paris Van Dyke of Louisville, IL; his church family and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ollie was a graduate of Mattoon High School; he graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.  He served his country in the US Air Force reserves.  Ollie worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for over 30 years and served as an engineer during the construction of I-70.  Ollie attended Willow Creek Church where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher.  He helped coach little league baseball, junior high and high school basketball and football and MHS Sweet 16 football team.  He served his community on the Martinsville School Board as a member and past president.  He helped with farming and enjoyed raising sheep.

Due to current social restrictions and our concern for family and friends, services in honor of Ollie will be limited to immediate family only.  Burial will be in Butternut Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to the Martinsville High School Football Program, 255 W. Cumberland St., Martinsville, IL 62442.
