Norma Jean (Waldrop) Van Winkle

Norma Jean (Waldrop) Van Winkle, age 90, of Marshall, IL passed away peacefully at 8:08 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Heartland Nursing Center and Rehabilitation in Casey, IL.  She was born September 3, 1931 in Crawford County, IL, the daughter of Ray E. Waldrop and Pauline (Messenger) Waldrop. On December 31, 1953 she married Leroy Wesley Van Winkle in Robinson, IL.  He passed away on April 23, 2011.

Survivors include son, Dr. Gary Van Winkle (Cristina) of Lawrenceville, IL; daughter, Cheryl Kirk (Mike) of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Courtney Blackwell (Dustin), Clint Van Winkle (Krystine), Abby Shafer (Cory), Lyndsey Kirk, and Brittany Graman (Andrew); great grandchildren, Adalyn Blackwell, Gavin Blackwell, Dane Van Winkle, Brody Shafer and Jaxon Shafer; brother, Dene Waldrop (Sandy) of Sumner, IL, several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Imogene Lindsey and brother, Darrell Waldrop.

Norma was a 1950 graduate of Oblong High School.  In 1971 Norma and Leroy founded Van Winkle’s Garage in Martinsville, IL.  She worked with him in their business for over 20 years until retirement.  Most importantly Norma was a homemaker caring for her family which she dearly loved.  Norma attended the Martinsville Bible Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL 62442.
