Obituary

Maxine Fern Barbee, age 97, of Westfield, IL passed away at 4:19 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Arbor Rose of Charleston in Charleston, IL.  She was born April 19, 1923 in Ashmore, IL the daughter of John Golladay and Estella Sweitzer Golladay.  On April 23, 1946 she married John G. Barbee in Charleston, IL; he passed away on April 29, 2000. 

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Ann “Bobbi” Ring (Larry) of Westfield, IL; grandchildren, Jon Ring (Kim) of Crystal Lake, IL; Dan Ring of Westfield, IL; Jeremy Ring of Westfield, IL; Amanda Duke (Brock) of Byron, IL; great grandchildren, Zachery Ring, Morgan Ring, Serena Ring, Jeanna Ring, Sierra Ring, Jesika Ring and Dominik Duke and foster children, Carolyn Barker (Charlie) of Henderson, NC; Marsha Poole (Rick) of FL and Helen Williams of CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Dale Golladay and Robert Golladay, Sr.; sisters, Rose Losoya and Elizabeth Emmaline Lindsay; foster son, Ronnie Moore and granddaughter, Cassandra Ring.

Maxine was a homemaker; she owned and operated the Red Bird Café in Westfield, IL and worked for Brown Shoe Company in Charleston, IL.   She was a faithful member of Westfield United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Loyal Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the American Legion Auxillary.  Maxine enjoyed quilting, painting, crafts (especially making jewelry), gardening, mushroom hunting and All Seasons Camping Club.  She enjoyed managing stands at local festivals.  Maxine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.  She shared her love of family nurturing and raising several foster children.

Due to current social restrictions and our concern for family and friends, services in honor of Maxine will be limited to immediate family only.  Burial will be in Richwoods Cemetery, Westfield, IL.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.
