Max Leon Shobe, age 85, of Terre Haute, IN formerly of Casey, IL passed away at 6:12 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born January 1, 1938 in Casey, IL, the son of Elza Clifford Shobe and Cora Mavis (Odell) Shobe. On August 27, 1971 he married Ruth Ann McAninch in Paris, IL.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Ruth Ann of Terre Haute, IN; son, Matthew Leon Shobe and his wife Katherine of VA; daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Dan of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Max Taylor and Eli Taylor; sisters, Iris Warfel and her husband Carl of Ridge Farm, IL and Martha Elkin and her husband Fred of Effingham, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lela (Shobe) Jones.
Max was a 1956 graduate of Casey High School. He continued his education at University of Illinois earning a degree in Agriculture Economics. He worked in sales and for thirty-three years, he was a trader of farm machinery. Max proudly served his country in the United States Army and is a Cold War Veteran. He is a former member of the Martinsville American Legion. Max was always active outside and enjoyed fixing things. He also greatly enjoyed traveling in the RV and camping.
At his request cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Brooke Davis officiating. Military rites will follow the service at Markwell Funeral Home by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. CST prior to the service at the funeral home. Private inurnment in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery.
