Martha "Rosemary" Smith

Martha “Rosemary” Smith, age 83, of Casey, IL passed away at 3:16 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL.  She was born February 5, 1938 in Darwin, IL the daughter of Melvie Lewis Hall and Ruby Caroline Kuhn Hall.  On November 19, 1955 she married Jimmie L. Smith in Toledo, IL; he passed away on March 14, 1995.

Survivors include her children James Scott Smith (Debbie) of Casey, IL; Sandra Lynn Hammer of Martinsville, IL and Gerry Allen Smith (Tammy) of Casey, IL; sister Brenda Beasley (Dave) of Martinsville, IL; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one on the way; nephews, nieces and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Albert Hall, Wayne Hall and Charles E. Hall and son in law Brian Hammer.

Rosemary was a 1956 graduate of Casey High School.  She continued her education at Lake Land College and obtained her bachelor and most of her master degrees from Eastern Illinois University.  Rosemary retired from Casey Fertilizer after 40 years as their bookkeeper and accountant.  She was a faithful member of Casey First Baptist Church.  She held memberships in the Casey VFW Auxiliary, Casey Moose Lodge and served as past president of the bowling organization she was affiliated with.  Rosemary always had a smile on her face and enjoyed spending time at the Casey Senior Social Center and with her many friends.  She loved her family and treasured any time she could spend with them.  She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Jon McDonald officiating.  Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday morning at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. (Per CDC guidelines attendees should social distance and wear a cloth face covering.)
