Marilyn Clydene Shotts Obituary

Marilyn Clydene (Brosman) Shotts, age 90, of Martinsville, IL passed away on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2023 at Gibson Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, IN.  She was born December 31, 1932 in Martinsville, IL, the daughter of Clyde Ray Brosman and Threasa Alverda Eyestone Brosman.  On January 14, 1952 she married Ernest Robert “Bob” Shotts in Terre Haute, IN; he passed away on May 11, 2000.

Survivors include her children, D’Anna Shotts of Nigeria, West Africa; Michael Shotts (Kim) of Martinsville, IL and Byron Shotts (Karrie) of Martinsville, IL; sister, Dorothy Ruth “Dottie” Lee (Bill) of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Ross Shotts (April), Vivienne Shotts and Vaughn Shotts, all of Martinsville, IL; great grandchildren, Hayden Shotts and Ethan Kelso of Martinsville, IL and many nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Jerel Brosman and sister, Emma Lou Morecraft.

Marilyn was a 1950 graduate of Martinsville High School.  After high school she married Bob and they began their lives together in Alaska where he was stationed in the US Army.  Upon returning to Martinsville they began their lives as farmers.  Marilyn was a dedicated farm wife and mother.  She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning; she was an exhibitor in most of the county fairs in east central Illinois.

Marilyn was a faithful member of Martinsville First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school since the age of 13; sang in the choir and held numerous offices.  She enjoyed the time she spent in missionary work and volunteering with many organizations.  Marilyn also enjoyed participating in the Clark County Home Extension, was a 4-H leader and met monthly with a Ladies Club for lunch for over 50 years. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Martinsville Baptist Church, 5 Trotter Lane, Martinsville, IL with Brother Art Orndorff officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL. The family would like everyone to join them for food and fellowship prior to the service, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Church fellowship hall.
