Mara June Vanatta Obituary

Mara June Vanatta wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend left this world and went home to the Lord on November 19, 2023 at age 89.

She was born to Emil and Lena Vanatta on May 30, 1934. She grew up in Hidalgo IL with her brother Robert and sisters Jewel and Jeannette.

After graduating from high school, Mara met her husband, Max Markwell. Together, they have 4 children: Dennis, Doug, Nancy and Cheryl.

Mara loved spending time in her yard and garden growing numerous flowers and plants. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing crafts, sketching and taking road trips. She was always in pursuit of another plant and a new place to visit and explore. We can only imagine the wonders and sights of heaven and the exploring she is now freely able to do.

She fought a courageous battle with cancer the past two years. Her strength, determination and pure grit while undergoing treatment and surgeries was awe inspiring. The support, well wishes and prayers from family and friends were so valuable to her in her final weeks.

Mara was faithful in her attendance to Hurricane Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Emerich and the members of the church were such a blessing during this difficult time. The prayers and acts of kindness provided so much comfort and will always be treasured.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

John 11:25-26
