Lester Lee Gross

Lester Lee Gross, age 81, of Casey, IL passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL.  He was born March 27, 1939 in Casey, IL.  Lester was one of nine children born to Ira Gross and Audrey Howe Gross. 

He is survived by his sisters, Gwendolyn Schmidt of Casey, IL and Olive Kay Monroe of Toledo, IL; sister in law, Martha Gross of Casey, IL, many nephews and nieces, his many friends and the Casey community.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jerry Gross, Wallace Gross, Donald Gross, Leroy (Pete) Gross and sisters, Norma Hardy and Rosetta Joan Gross.

Lester was a man about town and always knew the latest news. Until his recent move to a care facility he could always be seen walking or biking around town.  You might find Lester having coffee with the Mayor or lunch with a construction crew; he never sat still for long.  Lester was a wealth of information; he had a knack for remembering years, dates and times.  A walking, talking Casey historian of sorts, he seemed to always know everyone and where they came from.  One of his favorite past times was the Casey Saturday Night Auction.  He enjoyed mushroom hunting in the spring and deer hunting in the fall.  He made sure he always had time available to run around with the Brown boys and help them on the farm.  He loved to grow flowers and feed the birds.  Lester never met a stranger and could always make a person smile.  He was well known in the community and will be missed by all.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with Rev. Tom Marsh officiating.
