LeRoy Junior Baston, age 65, of Casey, IL passed away on Saturday evening, July 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 3, 1956 in Effingham, IL, the son of LeRoy Melvin Baston and Gwendolyn Louise (Gross) Schmidt. He married his loving wife Laura Ann Stoutin on November 13, 1982 in Casey, IL.
He leaves behind his wife Laura of almost 39 years; son, Brandon Baston and wife Elizabeth of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Bryce Brown, Falyn Baston, Mason Baston, Harmony Merritt and Felicity Merritt; his mother, Gwen Schmidt of Casey, IL; mother in law, MaryAnn McNeil of Casey, IL; sisters, Debbie (Larry) Asberry of Kokomo, IN, Vicky (Steve) Howard of Casey, IL, Alma Jackey of Kokomo, IN, Rita Miller of Martinsville, IL, Lori (Kevin) Watts of Robinson, IL; brother, Alan Baston of Casey, IL; brothers in law, George (Dave) Stoutin of Saugatuck, MI, John (Jan) Stoutin of Port St. Lucie, FL, Doug (Carey) Stoutin of Casey, IL; nieces and nephews, Heather Jenks, Taylor Howard, Kyle Jackey, Nicole Hiatt, Roxanne Kingery, Audrey Miller, Zak Baston, Clayton Watts, Hillary Robison, Callie Stoutin, Drew Stoutin and Courtney Stoutin; and many aunts and uncles. LeRoy was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Baston; father, LeRoy Baston; and nephews, Fred Irby and Ward Irby.
LeRoy was a 1974 graduate of Casey High School. He was retired from the City of Casey where he was Foreman of the Street Department for 17 years. He later started his own business, LeRoy’s Home Care - pouring concrete and remodeling homes and businesses. He donated hours of his time for different projects including concrete at the Casey High School football field and ASA Softball Hall of Fame Museum and also building and concrete work for many more projects. LeRoy was very involved in a wonderful group – WHHC.org Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp; he also raised money for the group. He spent many hours cooking for the wounded vets when they came to hunt. He enjoyed sitting in the deer stands with the vets and listened to their many stories. LeRoy was always helping others any way he could. He was well known for his fish fry’s. One of his greatest joys spending time with his family and hunting and fishing. LeRoy was a faithful member of Westside Church of Christ in Casey, IL. Above all he loved and followed our Lord and Savior.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Markwell Funeral Home with Mr. Andy Brenton officiating. Burial will follow in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave. Casey, IL.
