Obituary

Lawrence Allen “Larry” Spittler, Sr. age 88, of Martinsville, IL passed away 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June14, 2023 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. The son of David Luther Spittler and Ruby Leah Claypool Spittler, he was born on February 27, 1935 in Martinsville, IL. On August 27, 1960 he married Linda Lee Henderson in Huntsville, AL; she passed away on April 24, 2018.

Survivors include his sons, Lawrence A. Spittler, Jr. (Shari) of Midland, TX and Mabron Lee Spittler (Jaime) of Hoffman, IL; grandchildren, Mandi Thompson (Jordan), Lawrence A. “Trey” Spittler III (Tori Ritz) Sam Herman, Lauren Herman and Joshua Herman, Kalyn Worland (Weston), Mabron Spittler (Taylor) & Isabella Spittler; seven great grandchildren and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Linda; daughter, Elizabeth “Lynn” Herman and sister, Merle Gregger.

Larry was a 1953 graduate of Martinsville High School. He served his country in the US Army from 1954 – 1956. He then continued his education at Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Larry owned and operated Spittler Trucking and taught Industrial Arts in local schools as well as in Huntsville, AL. He attended the Martinsville Bible Church and was a member of Martinsville American Legion. He enjoyed trains, steam engines and treasured and loved any time he could spend with his family. Larry would be proud he was a tissue donor.

Private family services and inurnment will be held at a later date with military rites by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL.
