Judith Irene (Gregg) McFadden

Judith Irene McFadden, age 80, of Martinsville, Illinois died Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana.  She was born May 5, 1941, in Terre Haute, the only child of Aubrey Gregg and Halleen Deahl Gregg.  Judy grew up on her family’s farm just north of Martinsville and graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1959.  She attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in music education.  She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and participated in band, choir, and orchestra.  There Judy met her future husband, John McFadden.  They were married August 17, 1963, in Charleston, Illinois.

Judy and John lived for many years in the Chicago suburbs of Country Club Hills and Lockport, where they raised their 3 daughters.  They returned to Martinsville in 2001, retiring to the family farm.  

Judy was active in the General Federation/Illinois Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC/IFWC) for many years.  She served as President of the Illinois Third District from 1990 to 1992, and later especially enjoyed her time as part of “Jackie’s Bow Ties.”  Judy also worked (volunteered) in the Secretary’s Office of the Martinsville Agricultural Fair nearly every summer since she was 13 years old.  Fair Week was always a special time for Judy and her family.

Judy liked to travel.  Her and John’s annual “snowbird” trips to Marco Island, Florida, were a highlight of her winters for nearly 30 years.  Judy also enjoyed shopping, attending auctions, and watching NASCAR.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Halleen Gregg.  She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John McFadden, of Martinsville; 3 daughters, Claudia (Jeffrey) Lewis, of Parrish, FL, Marcia (Spencer) Hopper of Lockport, and Johanna McFadden of Lockport; and 2 grandchildren, Aubrey Hopper and David Hopper of Lockport.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 12 p.m. at Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Zoila Marty officiating.  Burial will be in Rupp Cemetery, Martinsville, IL.  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.   (Per CDC Guidelines face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status in the facility.  Attendees should also practice social distancing.)
