Joy Eileen Hicks

Joy Eileen Hicks, age 92, of Casey, IL passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Casey, IL. She was born on August 8, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Hubert Orville Abney and Zora Mabel Brown Abney. On July 29, 1950 she married Robert Earl Hicks in Indianapolis, IN.

Survivors include her loving husband of seventy-two years, Bob Hicks of Casey, IL; daughters, Vicki Howe (Steve) of Yale, IL and Linda Verde (Marc) of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughters, Brandy Nash (Chris) of Greenup, IL, Savanna Verde and Sierra Verde of Simpsonville, SC; and great grandsons, Cooper Nash and Reid Nash of Greenup, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Abney and Zora Abney Goble; brothers, Jimmie Abney and Jack Abney; and grandson, Dustin Howe.

Joy was a 1948 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, IN.  She retired after working twenty-seven years at Bank of Casey.  Joy was an avid golfer and also enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles.  Joy was always full of questions.  She greatly loved her family and enjoyed making memories with them.  Joy and Bob were faithful members of the Casey United Methodist Church.  They enjoyed spending many of their retirement years in Sun City West, AZ.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Casey United Methodist Church, 703 N State Hwy 49, Casey, IL with Rev. Dr. Joe Richard officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Vernon Addition Mausoleum in Casey, IL.

In lieu of flowers donations in Joy’s memory may be made to Casey Township Library Building Fund, 307 E. Main St., Casey, IL 62420.
