Jerry Self Obituary

Jerry Rolland Self, age 69, of Casey, IL passed away at 8:53 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Community Hospital East, Indianapolis, IN. He was born November 24, 1950 in Centralia, IL the son of James Rolland Self and Leila Effie Patrick Self. On April 7, 1973 he married Karen Jean Hughes in Wamac, IL.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-seven years, Karen Self of Casey, IL; son, Steve Self (Tawnya) of Casey, IL; daughters, Patti Daughhetee (David) of Casey, IL and Missy Davidson (Ronnie) of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Brady Davison (Joanna), Jakob Self, Keeghan Daughhetee, Myah Davidson, Jasmyn Self, Sam Daughhetee and Jett Self; great grandchildren, Kasen Davidson and one on the way; many nephews and nieces, his Church family, his work family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Self and sisters, Margie Phipps and Wanda Schieber.

Jerry was a 1968 graduate of Centralia High School and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville graduate. He was retired after thirty-three years from Marathon Pipeline Company. After retirement he and Karen purchased Blackhawk Engineering, Inc., Casey Classic Cars and started Open Range. Jerry enjoyed bargain shopping, traveling, collecting cars, playing jokes and scaring people and was a tremendous storyteller. He was a proud supporter of his community and local sports. Jerry was a Godly man with a big heart and a larger than life personality. He was a faithful member of Westside Church of Christ in Casey, IL and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Due to current social restrictions and our concern for family and friends services in honor of Jerry will be private. Burial will be in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
