James William Eyre Obituary

James William Eyre, age 72, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL.  He was born April 10, 1948 in Oak Park, IL, the son of James Martin Eyre and Catherine Lorraine Meade Eyre.  On October 1, 1989 he married Linda Kay Cutright in Martinsville, IL; she passed away on January 18, 2010.

Survivors include his grandchildren, Jackie Goodwin (Tony) of Martinsville, IL; Andrea Selmeyer (Matthew) of Strawn, IL and Dustin Jeffries (Jennifer) of Casey, IL; stepson, Roger Brandenburg (Lori Briggs) of Martinsville, IL; brothers, Thomas Eyre (Laura) of Dover, TN and William Eyre (Paula) of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Nicole Dean, Alexander and Kaylee Goodwin, Carolyna, Jaydon, Jude, Silas and Theo Jeffries and Dylan and Elaina Watkins, his dog Jake and many many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. 

Jim was a 1966 graduate of St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin, IL and received his Associate degree before joining the US Army.  He served his country from November 1968 to September 1973 as a Sergeant in the first Cav during the Vietnam War.  Jim lived in Texas for many years before moving to Martinsville, IL in1999. He was a proud member of the Casey VFW and enjoyed spending time with his friends there. Jim retired after working for over fifteen years as a cook for the Picket Fence Restaurant in Martinsville, IL.  Jim loved the outdoors; he always enjoyed people stopping by for a cold beer in the yard.  He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting anyone about anything and everything.  Jim loved his family and treasured the time he was able spend with them.  His great grandchildren were his pride and joy.  

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
