James Pierce Morgan

James Pierce Morgan, age 87, of Carmel, IN formerly of Casey, IL passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis, IN.  He was born June 15, 1933 in Hazel Dell, IL the son of George Wesley Morgan and Bonnie Bertha Barlow Morgan.  On September 26, 1958 he married Velma Mae Edwards in Union Center, IL; she passed away on April 6, 2003. 

Survivors include his daughter Lorinda Morgan Weaver (Jeff) of Carmel, IN; granddaughter Sabrina Elder of Carmel, IN; grandson Kyle Weaver (Candice) of New Castle, IN; six great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma M. Morgan; son Dennis Lee Morgan; brother George J. “Jerry” Morgan and sisters Margaret Morgan and Lucille Graham.

Jim worked as carpenter his entire life retiring in 2000.  He was a US Army Veteran serving his country during the Korean War.  He was a former member of the Greenup American Legion. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Sims officiating.  Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with graveside military rites by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. (Per CDC guidelines attendees should social distance and wear a cloth face covering.)
