Gwendolyn Fasig Obituary

Gwendolyn Louise Fasig, age 90, of Martinsville, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:16 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, IN.  She was born September 15, 1929 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Ralph Bossert and Adeline M. Orwig Bossert.  On October 3, 1947 she married Maurice E. Fasig in Chicago, IL; he passed away on January 15, 2015.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Ann Good (Randall) of Charleston, IL and Melody Mae Fasig of Terre Haute, IN; son, Carl Edward Fasig of Itasca, IL; brother, Allen William Bossert (Donna) of Coral Stream, IL; granddaughters, Bethany Mae Clemenson (Thomas) of Siren, WI and Amanda Weber (Albert) of Macedonia, IL; great grandchildren, Gwen Clemenson (15), Gavin Clemenson (13), Aubree Weber (13), Abram Weber (8), Alec Weber (7) ,many friends and her Church family.  She is also survived by her beloved dog, Molly. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Ralph Charles Bossert (Hazel) and infant daughter, Linda Louise Fasig.

Gwen retired after working for over 17 years at Birchwood Nursing Home in Casey IL and 11 years at Casey Nursing Home.  She was a faithful member of the Martinsville Bible Church where she taught Sunday school, helped with Awana and sang in the choir. Gwen served as Past President of the PTA, helped with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and a local volunteer for the WKZI radio station.

Gwen was the rock in her family. She kept all of us informed and made sure we knew how much she loved us. She was also known as Mozey, MeMaw, and Grandma Tease (even though it was Maurice, her late husband that did the teasing). Gwen lived out her faith without drawing attention to herself. Her granddaughter’s earliest memories are of her and Maurice sitting at the kitchen table in the mornings reading their bibles and drinking coffee.

Gwen could be found barefoot in her garden in the summer. She loved the outdoors, birds, flowers and digging in the dirt. She loved animals of all kinds and was a softie for stray cats. In the Spring there would be multiple litters of kittens in the barn. She was known to have “runts” from litters of pigs and struggling baby calves in the basement nursing them to health. Baby chicks were also found in the Spring in tubs with heat lamps in the basement. She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers which always included more food than anyone could ever eat. She was an amazing cook and seasoned her meals with a hefty dose of love. Her cooking went beyond family. She was a regular part of church gatherings, potlucks and funeral dinners.

Due to current social restrictions and our concern for family and friends services in honor of her will be limited to immediate family only.  Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL.  A public Celebration of Gwen’s Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Martinsville Bible Church, 509 E. Ridgelawn Rd., Martinsville, IL 62442.

As we mourn the passing of Gwen, we also are filled with joy knowing that she is with the Lord, who is saying to her “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
