Freda M. (Deahl) Slater

Freda M. Slater, age 98, of Terre Haute, IN formerly of Marshall and Martinsville, IL passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Meadows Manor North Nursing Home, Terre Haute, IN. She was born May 20, 1922 in Martinsville, IL the daughter of Earl Deahl and Dorinda “Rinda” Thomas Deahl.  On June 2, 1937 she married Dale Slater in Martinsville, IL; he passed away on December 21, 2002.

Survivors include her son, Wendell L. Slater and his wife Mary Jo of Terre Haute, IN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Denzil Ray Slater and daughter, Joyce Ann Slater.

Freda was born and raised in Martinsville, IL. She had many stories she enjoyed sharing from her childhood.  She remembered going downtown Martinsville with her parents to see movies on Saturday nights and her dad taking her to blackberry patches where they would put kerosene on their pant legs to keep away chiggers.  Her dad was a mailman with a horse and buggy and one day came home with a baby goat for her.

Freda was housewife and an avid knitter.  She could also grab a hammer, saw and paint brush and build most anything.  Freda was a Cub Scout leader and a faithful member of the Martinsville Bible Church.

Private graveside services will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL.
