Ernest "Ernie" Wayne Garrard

Ernest “Ernie” Wayne Garrard, age 84, of Martinsville, IL formerly of Palestine, IL passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Heartland Nursing and Rehab in Casey, IL.  He was born on December 22, 1935 in Palestine, IL, the son of Ausby Earnest Garrard and Lyma Allegree Garrard.  He married Hazel L. Cash in Pekin, IL on April 17, 1979.  She passed away on April 10, 2006. 

Survivors include his children, John Garrard of Palestine, IL; Tim Garrard of Palestine, IL; Sharon Janney (Carl) of Martinsville, IL; Rebecca Carter (Leon) of New Mexico; Helen Cooper (Kim) of Martinsville, IL; Steve Garrard (Lori) of Palestine, IL; siblings, Earl Garrard (Marty) of Palestine, IL and Ruth Martin of Catlin, IL  and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel Garrard; brothers, Harold Leroy Garrard, Bill Garrard and Robert Garrard; infant twin sisters and son, Shane Lavern Garrard.

Wayne was raised in Palestine, IL.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy and was a member of Flat Rock American Legion Post 132.  Wayne was a member of Ironworkers and Pipefitters.  He was a retired Union welder and worked for companies in Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and St. Thomas, V.I.  Wayne enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a great passion for cars!

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
