Eleanor Marie Maxwell Wilson Obituary

Eleanor Marie Maxwell Wilson, age 85, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL.  She was born May 14, 1936 in Rogerson, Idaho, the daughter of Jesse Raymond Maxwell and Lena Rae Smith Maxwell.  On November 5, 1954 she married Rex Eugene Wilson, Sr. in St. Louis, MO.  They shared 67 wonderful years of marriage; Eleanor always said they never had any major arguments.

Survivors include her husband, Rex Wilson, Sr. of Martinsville, IL; children, Rex Eugene Wilson, Jr. (Sue) of Oconomowoc, WI; Lena Marie Grotenhuis of Green City, MO; Gary Dean Wilson (Vicki) of Lawrenceville, GA; Jesse Deon Wilson (Teri) of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Bradley Doran (Bethany), Elizabeth Dunn (Michael), Lynnetta Sanders (Brian), Jeanette LaFavers (Devin), Stasia Wilson, Veronika Jewell (Sean) and Kimberlee Clements Thompson (Austin); twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Connelly (Dwight) of Martinsville, IL and Patricia Ryan of Martinsville, IL; several nephews and nieces, her Church family and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Eleanor was a 1954 graduate of Martinsville High School and 1955 graduate of Varner’s Beauty School in Paris, IL.  She was a homemaker and a licensed beautician.  She was a talented artist and cake decorator.  She decorated cakes for the Casey IGA for many years.  Eleanor enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, arts, crafts and painting; she could paint anything.  Her memberships include Singing Sams, President of Westfield Baptist Association, Gas Light Art Association, Bible Study Fellowship and Glorietta New Mexico Women’s Retreat.

Eleanor was a member of the Martinsville First Baptist Church prior to joining Five Points Church in 1996.  She enjoyed participating with the ladies of the Church in their many activities.  Most important to her was her faith in God and her love for her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were her greatest joy.  She prayed daily for her precious family.  Her favorite scripture was John 3:16-17; For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
