Eileen Louise Hardway, 97, formerly of Martinsville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, Illinois. She was born on October 6, 1922, the daughter of Roy and Edna (Mauk) Dickey in Casey, Illinois. She married Chester Hardway on March 15, 1948, in Farmersburg, Indiana, who preceded her in death in August of 2001.
Eileen owned and operated Eileen’s Cards, Gifts and Religious Supplies, a gift shop in Martinsville, Illinois, for over 25 years. She wrote a recipe column titled “The Kitchen Shelf” which appeared in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star and various local newspapers for several years. She also worked part-time at Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville.
Eileen is survived by her daughters, Anita (husband Mark) Wankel of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, and Deena (husband Geff) Burris of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her grandchildren, Kevin Burris of Roanoke, TX and Greg Burris of Cedar Falls, IA; three step grandchildren, Les (Julie) Wankel, Tim (Kendra) Wankel, and Kyle (Stephanie) Wankel all of Petersburg, IL, and five step great grandchildren.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Carl Dickey and Ralph (wife Margaret) Dickey.
A graveside service will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Illinois, on Monday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tom Marsh will be officiating.
