Dr. Dale Lewis Robey, 91, of Greenup, Illinois passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Pana, IL. He was born September 6, 1928 in Casey, Illinois, the son of Martha Sally Ann Carver Robey and Oval Forest Robey.
Dale Robey was a 1946 graduate of Casey High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He served in the Navy and Louisiana Coast Guard before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and History from Louisiana College, a Master of Science and Doctorate of Education in Counseling and Testing from Indiana State University, then completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He had a long and varied career as a teacher, professor, and neuro-psychologist, retiring with the Veteran’s Administration in 1990. Post retirement, he completed a Master of Arts in Divinity and Theology from St. Mary of-the-Woods College. He also owned a small farm in Cumberland County.
Dale noted that the trouble with longevity was seeing so many loved ones pass away. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lela Finney Robey, daughter Christie Robey Williams, granddaughter Michelle Eagleson Dunn, grandson Kenon Johnson, brother Leonard Herbert Robey and sister-in-law Wanda June Robey, nephew Jerry Dale Robey, nephew Michael Leonard Robey, and many longtime friends.
Dale is survived by his daughter Marti Robey-Fox and granddaughters Catherine, Emily, and Mary of Broken Arrow, OK; his grandson Dale Gentry of Toledo, IL; granddaughter Chenoa Anderson of Champaign, IL; granddaughter Kisha Luy of Oakland, IL; niece Connie Sullivan of Greenup, IL; niece Mary Ann Funk of Casey, IL, in addition to numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and close friends such as Peggy and Rex Chapman of Pana, IL.
Dale Robey enjoyed a good conversation, loved to laugh, was a champion of animals, and was active well into his later years. He possessed great tenacity as well as a passion for education, nature, and his relationship with God. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A private graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, in Casey, Illinois.
