Darrell Leon Harlow Obituary

On March 24th, our loving father Darrell was reunited after 17 ½ years with his beautiful wife Rogene in their heavenly home. He was born on April 2, 1925, the sixth child born to Walter and Martha Sweet Harlow. He married the love of his life, Rogene Morgan, on August 29th, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri.

Darrell and Rogene were the parents of three daughters (which is exactly what Darrell wanted) Cheryl Crocker (Bob), Daralea Smith (George) and Jeanne Strohm (Larry).  They had eight grandchildren; Christopher Crocker (Amanda), Kimberly Smith, Jennifer Branson (Randy), Quentin Smith, Megan Eitel (the late Steve Eitel), Corey Strohm (Jaclyn), Kylee Strohm and Chelsea Rogerson (Tyler).  They were the great grandparents of fifteen and great-great grandparents of eight.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rogene; siblings, Zola Wolfe, Lloyd Harlow, Floyd Harlow, Doyle Harlow and Marie Hills.

As a young boy, he was saved and baptized attending Mt. Pleasant Church. A strong work ethic was passed onto him at an early age as he helped his parents on the farm and with their truck patch gardens where they sold produce at Farmers Markets.  He was a 1942 graduate of Martinsville High School.  In August of 1943, Darrell enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.  Rogene was a “Rosie the Riveter” in Chicago during this time.  After returning home, Darrell and Rogene began their many business careers.  They were an amazing team working together at Harlow’s Market, Marshall IGA, the Dog’N’Suds Drive-ins as well as other business ventures.  They were fortunate to have made many friends and former employees over the years.  They enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Naples, Florida.

Darrell was a member of the First Christian Church. He served seventy-six years as a member of the American Legion Post 90, VFW. He also served sixty-six years as member and past master of the Marshall Masonic Lodge, Ainad Shrine, 10-70 Motor Patrol and Clark County Shrine Club serving as a past president.
