Col. Scott Alan Brewer Obituary

Col. Scott Alan Brewer, age 71, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Casey Healthcare Center in Casey, IL. He was born November 20, 1950 the son of Richard Lee Brewer and Frances Meriem Hartman Brewer.

Survivors include his children, Judy Jo Brewer of Casey, IL, Jamie Lynn Brewer of Casey, IL, Scott F. Brewer of Newman, IL, and Shirley Duniphan of Casey, IL; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Davis (Bill) of Charleston, IL and Jo Young (Tom) of St. Joseph, IL; brothers, Terry Brewer (Kristi) of Charleston, IL and Randy Brewer (Angel) of Martinsville, IL; former spouses, Myrtle Duniphan Miller of Casey, IL and Jama Allison Brewer of Casey, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Brewer; mother and stepfather, Meriem Brewer Wright (Lewis Edward “Ed” Wright) and brother, Richard Lee Brewer II.

When Scott was 12 years old, he began painting along with his brothers; this was the beginning of their long time Brewer Bros. Painting.  Scott was a member of the Casey High School Class of 1968 and a lifelong resident of Casey, IL.

In 1972 Scott formed Brewer Apartments and Rentals with real estate in Charleston and Casey, IL.  Scott was an entrepreneur and workaholic establishing many businesses in Casey over the years.  He proudly owned and operated the Casey Auction from 1983 – 2018; he always enjoyed sharing his colorful humor (and sometimes his political views) with the bidders.  Although he was always working on new material and jokes, he always stressed that auctions were serious business.  He eventually opened the Auction House Diner to allow his friends (which was every customer that walked through the door) to share stories and sit and drink coffee for hours.

Scott’s claim to fame was, “I am the second longest business owner in Casey next to Ralph the Barber.”

Scott was a member of the Casey Masonic Lodge #442, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ainad Shrine and proudly served as Past President of Clark County Shrine Club.

At his request a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
