Alta Pauline "Polly" (Maxey) Barkley

Alta Pauline “Polly” Barkley, age 103, of Anderson, SC formerly of Casey, IL passed away at 5:30 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Condor Health in Anderson, SC.  She was born February 10, 1917 in Pierceburg, Crawford County, IL, the daughter of Orval Leonard and Leoma Amizonia King Maxey.  On March 26, 1945 she married George Thomas Barkley in Alton, IL; he passed away on May 18, 1987.

Polly is survived by her children, David Barkley (Marianne) of Junction City, OR; Lowell Barkley of Mattoon, IL and Jane Sappenfield (David) of Williamston, SC; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, brothers, Harry Maxey, Philip Leroy Maxey and James Maxey and sisters, Mable Hardcastle and Mary Linder.

Polly was a homemaker; she worked as a waitress and a nurse’s aide in local hospitals.  She was a member of the Ladies Home Extension of Toledo, IL and enjoyed reading.  Polly attended the Woodbury Methodist Church and Greenup United Methodist Church.

Graveside services and burial for family will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Hazel Dell South Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL with Pastor Richard Emrich officiating.
