Alice May Zarka, age 96, of Casey, IL passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. She was born August 2, 1924 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Montgomery Stubblefield and Mary Elizabeth Moore Stubblefield. On December 18, 1943 she married Joseph Zarka in Brighton, IL; he passed away on February 16, 2003.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Rankin of Casey, IL and Mary Freeman (Marshall) of Casey, IL; sisters, Luriel Bott of Brighton, IL and Betty Jean Turnaw of Glen Carbon, IL; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Joseph Stephen “Steve” Zarka; granddaughters, Jessica Loyd and Renee Pajak; brother, Montgomery Stubblefield; sister, Virginia Peterson and son in law, James Rankin.
Alice grew up and lived in Brighton, IL until 1959 when she moved to Casey, IL. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Casey, IL. Alice was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL.
In lieu of flowers, Alice’s request was for everyone to “DO SOMETHING KIND FOR SOMEONE ELSE.”
