Emily E. Clark Capps

Emily E. Clark Capps, age 73, of Channahon, IL passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2021 at home.

Born September 25, 1948 in Effingham, IL, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Paul and Pearl Irene (Beasley) Clark.  She married the love of her life, Henry Monroe Leigh Capps, Sr., and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2004.  A brother, Luther Clark, and a sister, Jill Mineo, also preceded her in death.

Emily was a loving and caring wife and mother who was devoted to caring for her family.  When her children were a little older, she began taking nursing classes at Joliet Junior College and work as a caregiver for several years.

She enjoyed visiting the surrounding nature parks and going for drives with Jim and was always happy to watch The Flash with Henry on Tuesdays.  She and her daughter, Emily, shared a special mother daughter relationship and could spend hours together just talking and sharing life's challenges. She absolutely loved having her grandchildren over and would often spoil them with sweets and play games with them. Lastly, she was an avid collector of Carnival glass and loved watching the Cubs play baseball. There wasn't a lemon meringue pie that she couldn't pass up and Rita's persimmon pudding was among her favorite desserts.

Emily is survived by her beloved fiancé, James “Jim” Horwath; her loving children, Emily (Jason) Spangler of Gardner, Henry Capps of Crest Hill, Leonard Clark of Decatur and Paul Capps of Joliet; two adoring grandsons, Zachariah and Nathaniel Spangler; three half-brothers, Larry Capps, Gerald Alkus Capps and Eddie (Gail) Capps, all of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Emily Capps will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1414 DuPont Avenue in Morris, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. 

Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery in Yale, IL on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.  Markwell Funeral Home of Casey, IL is assisting the family with local arrangements, www.markwellfuneralhome.com
