Arlene (Seggerson) Green

Arlene (Seggerson) Green, 81, of Ste. Marie, IL passed away January 20, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She was born September 3, 1940, to Florence Jewel (Prosser) Seggerson and William "Bud" Frederick Seggerson in Chicago, IL.

She worked many years in the manufacturing industry in Mattoon.  She made lifelong friends at GE, worked at Kraft Foods, and when it became Lender's Bagels, she was on the original crew sent to Pennsylvania for training.  Arlene then rounded out her career at Hershey in Robinson, IL where she worked as a line leader until her retirement in 2010.

She married Norman "Norm" Bayer on July 7, 1962, and they became the proud parents of 4 girls: Kirsten "Kris", Debra "Debi", Amy Beth, and Susan "Susie". There were numerous summertime family vacations in the good 'ol station wagon, several Sundays and Wednesdays spent at church, and countless days/nights at sporting events.  Norm and Arlene also enjoyed many fantastic years being part of the Candlesnuffers group. Norm sadly passed away in 1986.

Arlene was an avid reader, enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events, having monthly lunch dates with “the Hershey girls” and even handmade needlepoint Christmas stockings for every member of the family.

Surviving are her children Kris (Greg) Branch of Iuka, IL, Debi (Bruce) Decker of Casey, IL, Amy Gilbert of Jacksonville, NC, and Susie (Jim) Yates of Charleston, IL.  Also, her niece and nephews from Chicago, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-nieces/nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her first husband Norman "Norm" Bayer, second husband William "Bill" Green, her parents Jewel and Bud Seggerson, her brother Arnold Seggerson, and sister Gail Hull, both from Chicago.

Funeral services will be held at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, IL on Thursday, January 27th beginning at 10am with Pastor Jeremy Morton. Visitation will precede the funeral from 9am-10am on January 27th at the funeral home. The family will attend a private burial on January 28th with her final resting place being by Norm's side at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. (Per CDC Guidelines indoor masks and face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status in the facility.  Attendees should also practice social distancing.)
