Mildred Lois "Millie" Biggs Obituary

Mildred Lois Biggs, affectionately known as “Millie”, age 98, of Hazel Dell, IL passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Casey Health Care Center in Casey, IL. She was born September 13, 1925 in Hazel Dell, IL, the daughter of William Howard Hawker and Loreen Cook Hawker. On May 26, 1951 she married Freeman Lemar Biggs in Hazel Dell, IL; he passed away on January 2, 2007.

Survivors include her daughters, Marietta Jo “Jody” Biggs of Westfield, IL and Patricia Jan Sharp (Michael) of Highland, IL; grandchildren, Andee Swick, Kyle Biggs (Amy), Brandon Sharp (Lezleigh) and Clayton Sharp (Lauren); great grandchildren, Charles Sharp and Alexander Sharp; sister, Carolyn Fasig of Casey, IL; many nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces and many friends.  She was preceded by her parents and loving husband of fifty-five years, Freeman Biggs; brothers, Howard Hawker, Carl Hawker and Herb Hawker; and sister, Margaret Carlen.

Millie was a graduate of Casey High School and attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL. She proudly served in the US military WWII Navy WAVES.  Millie was a faithful member of the Hazel Dell Church of Christ and was also a member of the Hazel Dell Busy Bees.  Millie along with her sisters, Marty and Carolyn and their friend Margie Burnett sang together in Church and for many funerals over the years. Millie served as an election judge and delighted in working on all election days. She enjoyed watching and feeding hummingbirds, sewing, music and poetry.  Millie was also an avid Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan.

Graveside funeral service and burial will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Hazel Dell North Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL with David Hickox officiating. Graveside military rites will be provided by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday morning at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
